Buccellati Jewelry

buccellati jewelry
Since its emergence midway through the 18th century, the Buccellati family and their business has experienced immense changes. Initially the business began in Via degli Orafi, Milan, where Contardo Buccellati opened his first store. In 1919 Mario Buccellati took over the family business and began to network the brand’s name reaching a clientele in Italy, Belgium, Spain, Egypt and the Vatican with stores opening in Rome and Florence.

Following Mario’s death in 1965 the family business was taken over by his four sons, eventually being left in the hands of one, Ginmaria. Ginmaria who still has the business’ head office stationed in Milan, picked up where his father left off. The brand was expanded commercially, reaching from Europe to the United States and Asia. Buccellati jewelry and silver is created in-house and is usually designed by a member of the Buccellati family, by Gianmaria or his son Andrea.

The Classic and bold statement creations of Buccellati have become world renown for their quality and craftsmanship, and as being created for the contemporary woman. In 2000 a collection of both Buccellati’s finest and oldest pieces were assembled and featured in an exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum to celebrate the work and achievements of Gianmaria and his family’s brand.

In 2007 the curator of the Museo degli Argenti of Palazzo Pitti in Florence contacted Gianmaria. The invitation was extended to Gianmaria to create two broaches as a contribution to the gallery, which would be dedicated to goldsmiths of the 19th and 20th century. Gianmario crafted the broach with honor, creating a style, which reflected that of Contardo Buccellati, who was credited for his craftsmanship as a jeweler.
